In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of the Bible, and why it is special to Christians. They also consider the words and stories that are meaningful to themselves. It was originally taught as a part of an RE unit on ‘Special Words and Stories.’ The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey: -Thinking about which stories are meaningful to them, and why they hold special meaning; -Introducing children to the Bible, and developing their understanding about who it was written by, how it is structured, and the different types of writing that we can be found within it; -Understanding why the Bible is special to Christians, including reflecting on a child-friendly version of The Good Samaritan, to demonstrate how Bible stories teach Christians important messages; -Completing a plenary activity to assess their understanding; -Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective. This engaging and original assembly/ collective worship session aims to provide children with an understanding of the Saint Peter and how he became a disciple of Jesus. It was originally delivered as the first in a series of three collective worship sessions on Saint Peter. The aims of the session are to consider: -How Peter became a disciple of Jesus; -What personal qualities he showed when Jesus called him; -How we can apply these qualities in our own lives. The colourful and comprehensive presentation guides the worship leader and the children through the following journey: -Sharing prior knowledge about Saint Peter and establishing the basic information about who he was/ what he is known for; -Watching an engaging, age-appropriate video which shows how Simon and Andrew first followed Jesus, and how Jesus named Simon ‘Peter.’ -Engaging with a short passage of scripture which delves deeper into why the name ‘Peter’ was appropriate; -Considering the personal qualities that Peter displayed throughout his his first meetings with Jesus; -Reflecting on our own spirituality - how can we apply the personal qualities shown by Peter into our own lives in the modern world? -Participating in related song and prayer. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. If everything is kept in, it takes around 30 minutes to deliver, but you may choose to edit or amend some elements of the session. In this engaging and informative lesson, students are enabled to make clear and insightful interpretations of Elizabeth Bennet – the chief protagonist in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In particular, students learn about her key characteristics- such as her strong ideas, wit, intelligence, grace, and good humour – and relate these to ideas of societal expectations of the time. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through: - Playing a fun and interactive quiz to determine the key events and family life of Elizabeth Bennet; - Establishing her characteristics and traits, utilising textual evidence; - Analysing Elizabeth’s character in relation to the expectations of society in the Regency Era; - Creating clear and creative diary entries, using an in-depth understanding of Elizabeth’s character; - Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts.
